The Roadmap for Digital Transformation is more than Technology
Efficient communication and coordination are important in many organizations to drive success in organization goals, performance, project launches and management etc. How then, can something that seems so basic be a challenge when it comes to the construction industry?
A breakdown in collaboration between trades, inability to connect the job site with the office, siloed project information, and a lack of project visibility are routinely found to be key causes of project delays and cost overruns. Utilizing innovative technology to connect teams and standardize processes across all projects have been found to increase productivity and protect margins for businesses that have embraced digital transformation. When all data and construction workflows can be connected on a single platform, it is time to ditch information silos and paper-dependent processes.
In this session, learn about the benefits of construction innovation with Makati Development Corporation (MDC) and Procore Technologies. Ms. Ginaflor C. Oris, Chief Finance Officer and Corporate Finance and Procurement Group Head of MDC will share how they have benefited from digitally transforming their business on a single platform.

Digitization of construction worksites: 8 ideas for running sustainable projects
Most studies on climate change now agree on the influence that human activity has on our planet's climate and temperatures. It is now estimated that if nothing is done, the average temperature of our planet could rise by up to 5°C by the end of the century, with the dramatic consequences that we are already witnessing right now.
One of the measures to prevent this worst-case scenario from happening is the Paris Agreement for climate change, signed in 2015, which aims to limit this temperature increase to + 2˚ globally compared to the pre-industrial era. Achieving this goal requires the most greenhouse gas-emitting human activities to begin a large-scale transformation aimed at limiting their CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.
The construction sector has therefore a vital role to play in Environmental and Energy Transitions. Digital technology, when made available to site teams, can help speed up the transformation of working methods and accelerate the evolution to more eco-friendly projects.
Discover with our experts a selection of 8 pragmatic ideas, based on these 3 levers, to make your worksites more sustainable using a simple tablet or smartphone and Finalcad digital solutions.

How to Manage Ventilation: Dilemma During and Post COVID-19 Era
To maintain a good quality of indoor air, dilution by outdoor air ventilation is one of measures in building management. And with the COVID-19 pandemic lately, the guidance for mitigating airborne virus spread has largely focused on maximizing outside air (OA) ventilation. Anyway, the huge energy toll (not to mention the carbon emissions impact) of this strategy has been highlighted. So we are in dilemma. On one hand, we want to ventilate to dilute pathogens to respond to COVID-19. But on the other hand, we can save money and save the earth if the OA can be reduced. How can we decide what’s the best course of action?
Until Recently, in an under-reported change to its “Commercial Guide”, ASHRAE’s Epidemic Task Force acknowledged the energy penalty associated with increased OA ventilation, and offered an alternative approach that is the use of minimal OA ventilation as required by ASHRAE 62.1 combined with high-efficiency filtration. This can provide same effectiveness of reduction risk of indoor epidemic as outdoor air ventilation but lower extra CapEx and OpEx. Fortunately, there is also a scientific model called Wells-Riley model to find the best mitigation practically.

Keys to Making BIPV Happen Today in Super Low Energy Buildings: Case Study
Globally, over 50% of the population lives in urban areas today. By 2045, the world’s urban population will increase by 1.5 times to 6 billion. City leaders must move quickly to plan for growth and provide the basic services, infrastructure, and affordable housing to their expanding population needs. Therefore, the need to create energy efficient buildings and to adopt renewable energy has become all the more important. Building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) is the latest technology that could contribute to the increased adoption of renewable energy at the building scale. A BIPV system mainly consists of a laminated safety glass with embedded solar cells integrated into the building envelope. BIPV could be integrated into the façade or the roof of the building envelope; also harvesting solar energy.

Building a Smart City in 6D
We spend 90% of our time in the buildings where we live, work, learn, entertain, and produce things. In 2019, however, the CO2 emissions of the giant industry we interact with every day - building and construction - increased to their highest levels to date, representing 38% of global energy related CO2 emissions. As an industry that employs 7% of the world’s working age population and as 68% of the world’s population will live in urban areas by 2050, stakeholders in this industry must take responsibility to reduce emissions and create a sustainable and net-zero future for everyone.
